I'm retired and and absolutely love to watch your videos! I always dreamed of building my own home with my husband but he was a very busy drug enforcement officer and never had spare time for anything but sleep and precious little of that. Also, his parents built their own home when he was in junior high school and that pretty much ruined any chance of him ever wanted to do that again! Ha! He never denied me anything (not that I ever wanted much) but he told me at the beginning of our 38 years together before the Lord took him home that I might as well accept that he wasn't building any more houses. His parents worked him hard! Your videos give me such enjoyment! So, please video more, if you can! I love it! Oh, and one little piece of advice. You and your pretty wife enjoy every single moment the Lord grants you together....... life goes by so quickly!

Ya'll built that. That's incredible! I used to frame custom houses with my dad, but we had power tools, and nail guns, a yard crane and a fork lift! It's really cool to see someone do this the old fashioned way. Ply wooding the roof, was always my least favorite part.

It's a wonderful cabin, that's for sure. I have never seen a log cabin built with corner posts like that though, here in Sweden they always use log joints of different kinds, so that was interesting to see. Must speed up the build quite a bit I'm guessing. And another thing that caught my eye was the floor, I didn't see any insulation put in before the floorboards were put on. Did you crawl under afterwards and insulate it, or was it uninsulated? And in case of the latter, wasn't the floor awfully cold in winter?

This is one of the best videos I've seen in a long time. Love the photo use, they really nail the context of this being your memories of this very special time. Brooke looks like a kid in these pictures, hard to believe she was old enough to have a kid of her own. That's probably just me being old though. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely enjoyed this video. I like watching craftsmen at work, especially when they clearly know what they're doing. The photos gave it the feel of an old time documentary and the music you chose was spot on for that as well.

The first time I saw one of Brooke's videos, I seem to recall it was her answer to Dave Canterbury's 5x5 challenge (might have been called something else but that's what comes to mind), I commented on how young she looked in it and how amazed I was that someone so young, as well as so small, could do so well on that challenge. She replied saying pretty much the same thing you did, that she's older than I thought she was. Of course I would never ask a ladies age but I can say that from both of your responses I'd say I'm definitely off because I guessed her to be about 25. My wife is the same way, we're both into our fifth decade now (I will go no further or my wife would rightfully beat me senseless) but she is constantly guessed as being in her mid 30's, so I know how that goes. Wish I was still being guessed that young! Alas, no. Most folks guess me within about five years of my actual age. Fortunately not older though, at least not yet.
Bushradical 4 yıl önce
I'm really glad you enjoyed the video. One of the things I LOVE about youtube is its an outlet to share experiences with the world. All these early years in Alaska it was constantly on my mind how isolated from the world we regards to being able to share our lives with other people. Its like living in a vacuum. You would send family members pictures but you wished they could be there to be part of the tube has given me an outlet to share with people like I had always wished to be able to do. I'm stoked everyone has enjoyed this video.
Bushradical 4 yıl önce
Thanks bob for the vote of confidence. I think Brooke and I were older in this video than you would think we were,... but I won't talk numbers and tell on us for being older than we look.

Great Video; do you still own the cabin(s)? If so, it would be great to see an update video to show how the cabin has held up over the years. Maybe even compare or contrast some of the things you learned or improved as you upgraded cabins to include additional amenities. Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed your video!
Bushradical 4 yıl önce
Thanks for the comment Michael. To answer your question, no I don't own them anymore. I sold both all that property in 2006 and moved to Delta Junction Alaska where we built the biggest log house of the 4. There is a lot I would do different, you learn new stuff all the time. The larger log cabin ( in the last frames) was actually an easier build.
