For most of the last 20 years Ive lived in cabins in Alaska. Living in a remote off-grid cabin is a quiet simple way to spend your time.
Ive spent my summers at this log cabin in interior Alaska since 2015. In this video I keep the camera rolling during a typical day in early fall (2019). I get up, make a fire in the wood stove. Cook breakfast on our propane range, and get the dishes washed up using rain water I collect off of a shed roof.
I also, pick some berries and split up the evenings firewood. A little exercise with an axe and a chainsaw always makes you sleep better. Finally i fire up the coleman lantern and turn on the radio as the sun goes down. A nice way to spend a day.

The river bank is a great place for serious conversations. Whatever is said, the water will carry it away. And in the forest, any word can fall into the ground and germinate years later.

@JImEinOH I’m just East of Columbus. One of my pass times is searching Zillow for remote plots of land a little south (West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, even southern Ohio). It’s amazing how cheap you can get a little piece. I plan to put something on it like this guy has, and then at least have an option when shtf.

I've never seen anyone split firewood without taking it out of the pile like you did. Just from the way you handle that axe I can tell you've been doing this for years, if not decades.

I lived like this for years as a young man. I heated my lake cabin for 16 years with an old pot belly stove. I ran a trotline and picked wild blackberries. I always grew some real good smoke and made homemade wine too. Some of the best times I ever had I was flat broke.

No kidding. I’m close to retirement now and happy for what my 401K has achieved if this government doesn’t ruin its value, but many of my seriously best fun and memories are from when I was worried about how I’d make rent, drove cars that I felt blessed if they’d start, that were eating lots of Ramen and $.99 cent A&P pizzas because it was what I could afford at the time. I’m glad today to not sweat it, but true happiness doesn’t have much if anything to do with money or the amount of it.

I imagine this may have been like how my mom lived on a a ranch in the 50s. They didn't always have electricity or running water. Watching these videos is so relaxing. I realized why I like camping so much, you inspire me to buy some land, even a 1/2 acre would do and build something on it one day.

I've thought about living off-grid so many times. Even if just for a few weeks a year. Camping is my getaway from the world and I've always loved being in nature. I'm sure I'd miss having internet and cell phone, but I'd get over it fairly quick.

I can't begin to tell you what solace I've found in these videos through the craziness of the pandemic. I suddenly found myself nursing in a Covid field hospital here in Europe and for a while at the beginning I was worried I'd never make it home. I'd go back to the staff accommodation and watch these and immerse myself in another life. Your narration is a joy, your voice has the most reassuring quality and the content you make is just beautiful. I'd put these videos on for my patients who were interested in the outdoors and I honestly credit you with the turnabout we saw in one particular patient who was truly on death's door for a while but ultimately walked out of that hospital under his own steam. Thank you for what you do, for sharing your extraordinary life, being so encouraging and helping us to see how achieving something like this is possible. I can't wait to have something similar one day, perhaps somewhere here in France or perhaps in the far north of Scotland like I've dreamed.

I honestly believe man was meant to live with nature, not against it, why so many of us feel so relaxed and at peace when watching videos like this or camping ourselves. We weren't meant to be isolated from nature, but to be part of it. I wish beyond wishing that I had the money for a camp, I would spend so much time there. We had one shared among extended family years ago but sold off as it wasnt used enough... no one could value how much I wished I had it back, I would almost live out there.

@b c The scriptures tell us when we die were dead. Any future life depends on a resurrection. Satan promotes the lie that we don't have to obey God. That we can do as we please and we won't die. Read Genesis. That's wny Jesus called satan a liar and the father of the lie. That's what satan told our first parents. He told them that they could eat from the tree of knowledge of good and bad and they would not die. They didnt have to obey God, they could make their own decisions as to what's right and wrong and keep living. God warned Adam and Eve they would die if they ate from the one tree God told them not to. The woman was thoroughly decieved and got Adam to also eat from the tree. That tree symbolized God right to decide whats good and bad for his creation. The rebellious angel got Our first parents to also rebel against Gods sovereignty and follow their rebellion. Rebellion against God is widespread throughout the earth. Look whats happened to our planet and all life on it because bumans don't want to listen to God. Greed for money and power. Oceans are dying, all life in our waters and on land is dying. To many disasters going on to even start mentioning them . I Adam and Eve passed sin and death to all their off spring. God loved the world so much he sent His first begotten son into the earth as a ranson sacrifice for sin. All who except Gods gift and exercise faith in Jesus Christ and continue to put up a struggle against our imperfect flesh and wicked spirit creatures , have the opportunity to live forever.
Dee B

@D. R. Im not trying to argue with you and would never be sarcastic however i must tell you that Jesus in NOT the Most HIGH . Jesus ALWAYS said he was God SON. Matthew, Mark, Luke ,John, Peter , James, and the rest of the GREEK scriptures tell us he is God son. Satan has used religion to decieve people. Gods name is even left out of most translations although its in the original Holy writings around 7000 times represented by the letters YHWH which is called the TETRAGRAMMATON . Instead of putting Gods name where it should be , translaters instead, put LORD or GOD. One only has to google YHWH and Tetragrammaton to learn Gods name. We are part of Gods creation. We are not Gods. We owe our lives to God. He created us, He put everything on earth for our enjoyment and happiness. He's called the happy God. And Love is His outstsnding quality. Satan a rebellious angel and a third of the angels who followed satan brought lies sickness old age and death to humans. GOD has been working out His original purpose to have humans fill the earth , living in paradise like conditions in peace , never having to die. Humans who recognize His sovereignty and want to live in harmony with His laws and standards as they know this is the way that leads to true happiness and eternal life. Genesis 3: 15 is the first prophecy concerning Gods promise to save obedient humans from death and remove satan and his seed from earth. From the looks of world conditions were not far off. Psalms 37: 10 , 11, Wicked will be gone . Psalm 37: 29 The righteous will possess the earth and live forever on it. Revelation 21: 4 God will wipe out all tears from their eyes and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore, the former things have passed away. An older version of the KJV has Gods name in several places one being Psalm 83: 18 says That people may know That you whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth. Luke 1: 32 says Jesus is SON if the MOST High. They are one in thought and purpose. And we need to learn to be one with them in thought and purpose.Jesus is called the WORD of God because he came out as Gods representative and is GOD'S spokesmen. Everything he told us he Said he recieved from the FATHER. Jesus told us to pray to the Father in his name because Jesus is the mediator between The FATHER and humans.

Lil Stack'n it’s interesting that everyone who wants to tell Christians that they are wrong goes straight to the book of Leviticus and points out the same verses to justify disregarding the whole book including the New Testament. That book was directed at a people living in tents who were in direct communication with God. It’s possible that rape verse was given to differentiate between actual rape and consensual sex between unmarried people one trespass had only one guilty party and the other two. I don’t know for sure but I’m not going to throw out the Bible because I don’t agree with some of what’s in it that I don’t completely understand. Slavery was allowed both with consent (indentured servants who were to be released after 7 years) and without it when it came to aliens who were not Israelites. In those days all other cultures were pagan and hated God. The world was a lot smaller then. I believe that God is a just God. If someone has truly never heard of Christ which is doubtful today, they wouldn’t suffer an eternal separation from Him in the afterlife. I also think He knows every persons heart and knows those who would accept Him and those who won’t. The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun. We’re the same today as we were then. Our hearts have some good intentions but we’re selfish and self centered for the most part and are capable of just as much evil. What did Moses do that we in our superior moral authority would condemn him for now? We still make it legal to kill our unwanted kids!!

Awesome video! Nice to see someone saying Grace before eating too. This video is so inspiring, I am working on more of a lifestyle like this, but for now camping will do😎 I am curious, what is the source for propane for the stove? Not sure if I missed that or if it was even mentioned.

Loved watching you build from the ground up. Thought I'd pass on a suggestion for a place for your kitchen sponge, brush, etc. You waste some useful space with the false front -- turn this into a useful space - on a hinge with a tray, and you have your sponge hideway.

Sometimes I want to build a cabin in the middle of nowhere then smash my phone against a rock then live out there for the rest of my life.

The river bank is a great place for serious conversations. Whatever is said, the water will carry it away. And in the forest, any word can fall into the ground and germinate years later.

@Sandra Routos: not wet dogs with long hair. Also, dogs were created as part of nature and they are much happier to spend most of their time outdoors exploring, chasing birds and rabbits, sniffing around, running and resting in the sunshine. When you have land like this, you can let them run free, the way they were meant to be!

Watching your videos remind me of where and how I grew up. Simple life small home in the woods, wood stove, stacks and piles of wood and kindling to chop which was always my job. Never thought I’d miss that, but now at age 54 and too many years of the struggle to keep up with the world, I yearn for quiet simple rainy day, bacon and eggs, a wood fire, a wide view of nature, plenty of quiet stillness, a comfy chair, a guitar, a sharp axe, and a beautiful sunset. Your videos are just right! They have instilled in me a strong desire to buy some wooded land and follow your lead. Preciatecha!!
