@sebas Stein And I think that’s really the point. To live sustainably and self-sufficiently ‘off-grid’ is to have the vision, courage, and humility to free yourself from the kind of materialistic and aquisitive worldview sadly illustrated by comments like this.

Dave, I Love the first video where you essentially built your off grid cabin and this one ( the second video ). Your videos are relaxing and calming. Also It was surprising ( and nice ) to see someone pray. I thank you for posting your vids. You stay radical too.

I thought the same about the ‘prayer’. It actually caught me off guard, but didn’t surprise me that Dave gave thanks. Always cheerful in his demeanour. This is someone who acknowledges + is grateful for what he has. Food, water + a roof over his head. 😌 Keep things in perspective + be grateful when things go well. It would be naive to think things will always go this way.

Awesome, definitely one of the "nicer" off-grid cabins I've seen built. Almost like an actual house! I think a dark stain on the floor would look really good. I work a desk job and don't know how to do any of this. My grandparents own 100acres and I've always thought about either learning how to do this or paying someone to build something like this on their land if it passes down to me at some point.

Bushradical is absolutely the best youtube channel i have seen. The filming is exceedingly great, the skills and techniques are fascinating to watch and learn, and the narration is both comforting and inviting like an old friend. I just can't say enough good about your videos, Thanks Dave for sharing your knowledge, skill and time with us.

You are the best Dave. I’ve watched you and “Girl in the Woods” for a long time. What I find that connects me with you is our ability to work with wood and just figure it out. It all just seems to make sense to me. This project that you just completed is so basic and yet so wonderful. I pray that your family has many, many years of wonderful times at the spot. I wish you and Brooke long, healthy, happy lives together.

A friend has a hunting cabin,no power just a generator ,out house, it sleeps 6. It is accessible only by tractor or 4 wheelers . It’s on 400 acres, surrounded by 1000 acres of property that’s not his just the farmers ,and they’re your friends and don’t rat you out .

Dave, two words come to mind after watching parts 1 & 2 of your videos, AMAZING & PHENOMENAL!!! You make it look so easy(from start to finish. Questions??? You only state this cabin is in the mid west. 1. What state are you in? 2. Are you going to dig a well for a water source? 3. How far is the cabin from the main road? 4. How many acres of land is this cabin on? Again, GREAT VIDEOS!!!

Love how this project turned out! I would suggest not to use spray foam insulation. It expands and over time will make opening doors and windows difficult. I've used it before on a house remodel. Several fellow contractors recommend not to use spray foam around doors and windows. Instead use insulation. This video makes me want to do the same thing you did. Great video!!!!
Old Dirty Burt
Old Dirty Burt 4 aylar önce
He used low expand door and window foam. It does NOT create excessive binding, because once resistance is felt the foam doesn't expand out. I've used the same stuff and it provides great results. Regular foam will expand to much and bind doors and windows.

Hey man just wanna say your videos are awesome and I admire your work ethic. I’m 28, fell on some hard times and my parents were gracious enough to let me move back home. TheAndrewc5120 7 aylar önce
seeing your process helped me realize how feasible it would be for me to build something like this cabin. Idk about cost (building materials, acreage, equipment, etc) but the actual process comes down to being able to lift, measure, cut, and nail. I have helped my family build a house and frame and build two massive shop buildings, so I don't think I'd be a fish out of water entirely AND i know people in multiple states who would be comfortable letting me borrow all of the equipment I'd ever need. Whether or not it comes to pass, thank you for opening my eyes to the possibility of building and owning a little cabin somewhere out in the world.

The forest is alive, it feels everything, understands everything. As you treat him, so he treats you. You will love him and he will love you. You treat him with warmth, and he will warm you. You will protect him, and he will save you and comfort you in difficult times. But the Forest cannot respond to evil with evil, it simply does not know how. The worst thing on his part is indifference. If the forest is indifferent to you, then you don’t love it, you don’t feel it, and it will never reveal its secrets to you. But if you love him, then it's forever. You will not be able to live without him then, longing will seize. It's like longing for a very close person or phantom pain. It seems that he left the forest for a while and not far, in general, but still you already feel that something is not right, something is missing. Yes, you can get used to it and you can even somehow live with it ... Although, no, not to live - to exist, to pull the strap, but not to live. It will no longer be possible to live. But when you return, then you will understand - you are at home, and they were waiting for you here, you are welcome, you are missed. And how good it is to finally be home!

Hi @bushradical. I have a question about sealing the floors in the winter. Did you come back in the spring, remove the wood stove, and seal under the small pine feet that you put in as a base for the stove? Is it necessary? I'm trying to plan out a similar project and this caught my eye somewhat. If given the choice, would have done this in the spring so the stove was a less urgent install prior to sealing the floors?

These videos are so great. Your idea of simplicity in the little things really comes through in your content. Couple of questions if you have time: What do you like to listen to/what do you pick up on the radio while you're up there? I see you pray before meals. Are there any books you'd recommend that have stuck with you over the years in terms of faith. I ask because I'm on the road for work (medical courier, 320 miles daily) and really appreciate book recommendations. Thanks!
