Dave that kitchen unit was great, my wife wishes I had DIY skills like yours! :-) I saw Brookes films of the house and barn storm damage, I'm glad no one was hurt during that. Wow! If you can rebuild that giant barn you really have your work cut out there! Can't wait to see what you do. Best wishes to you and your family.

Great video Dave with some good common sense tips. Everything is shaping up nice. I saw Brooke's videos on the house and barn. Sorry you two have had this trouble. I'm sure you'll have the house fixed in no time considering winter is on it's way. Too bad about the barn too, it looked like a really cool structure...

You're awesome!!! I've watched most of you tubes. You encourage people without skills to build. My two grandfathers were master carpenters for their time. I'm from a small town named Laie, Oahu Hawaii. My grandfathers helped to build many of the homes that are probably gone now due to modern times. I feel that I have my grandfather's carpenter blood wanting to build. Everything you do is very clear and make sense. Even though you don't know the right terms, we get it. Communication is key. One can have a PHD but if they can't communicate what good is it. You're perfect. I didn't connect The Girl in the Woods is your wife. Till you said it in one of your videos. I've watched her too and then realized it. Skills! Thank you so much for your videos. They are educational, heartful, neat, clear, concise, even spiritual. Thank you to both you and Brook, you show teamwork which couples need to see that, that's what makes things move along!!! GB

Great job on the cabinet, counter top and sink! Today I watched your video about the trip to Canada when you hit a deer, you got to Alaska and had to deal with a collapsed wall tent! Now you say a tree took out the house roof and the barn. You are one cool customer. No cussing, no throwing things, no drama. I knew it was possible!!! Thanks for sharing Dave. I love your skills and your attitude and your great gal! She’s a peach.

Thank you for this video. I have to build a counter in my little hunting cabin, and now I have a tutorial on how to do it. When I had to apply wood preservative on my cabin I used a two gallon garden sprayer. You have to cover up the windows, but other than that it works real well. You can get into all the tight spots with it. Real sorry about the house and barn, and please be careful working on the repairs.

I've always liked the fact that you can easily tell that it's built by my own two hands. Or else I could just as well have bought it at some store. Rustic and a bit rough round the edges, that's what it's about! Great stuff Dave. Sorry to hear about your home. Good luck with the rebuild and take care!

I love your videos man.. I am a subscriber to your channel and your wifes channel.. I really enjoy watching your videos and the cool things that you both do and it has inspired me and my wife to take a trip up to Alaska and search for some land to build on.. If you have any advice on what i should do i would love to hear it.. Im new to the lifestyle but have been an outdoorsman all of my life and my wife also.. We re just looking for a more quiet and secluded lifestyle and just sick of the city life.. And watching what you have accomplished threw the yrs have really inspired us both.. But i need someone with the experience to guide me threw and give me advice on what to do and not to do.. Because i don't wanna get 2000 miles away and be stuck not knowing which way to go.. And i know alaska is no joke and you really need to know what you're doing to make a living out there.. And you and your wife are the perfect couple to learn from.. You have built numerous cabins and have done so pretty much by yourself and i think that's just simply amazing man.. And i really want to live that lifestyle.. So if you do have any advice to give on what im saying id be very very grateful.. Thank you for the inspiration and sharing your life at the cabin with everyone and sharing your amazing videos.. Take care.. Cheers..

Hey Shannon, best of luck to you and your wife if you head up north. As for building a cabin Brooke and I have always looked for land by "feel" more than anything else. You know what you like when you see it, right. Around Fairbanks there is a lot of land thats perm-frost. You have to build a certain way on permafrost so be aware of that. Hit me up with any questions you have and I would be happy to answer them if I can. Good luck

Great job! I don't use a chalk line much either, I use pencil lines and a 48" T-square to double check everything (counters and cabinets)... if I make a mistake on one end the T-square will show me before I saw. My father (Master carpenter 34 years),always said "measure twice, cut once!"

Hi Dave, Nice job. You can purchase soft viny strips specifically made to cover the toe kick in assorted colors. 90 in. x 4.5 in. x 0.25 in. Or you can make the toe kicks yourself, easy cuts using the table saw.

It is always awesome to see cabinets made with a framing hammer. It could have been me doing that. I have saw envy, I hope to find one just like yours at a yard sale some day. There is an opportunity for a whack of videos fixing up the Michigan homestead. That old barn was so cool I hated to see it fall, but I am sure a better one will takes it place. Use a razor knife to make a guide cut (score) before you run the jig saw through it. As long as you keep the jig saw inside that score mark, you shouldnt get any flakes/chips on the counter top

Thank you for sharing. Flip the sink over and run a large bead of caulking around it about 3/8" from the outside edge. Then flip it back over and set it in. Install the sink clips and you are done. The clips hold the sink in place and the silcone keeps the water from going in under the sink. If it's done right you shouldn't see any caulking come out from under the sink.

I'm curious, being that you're a concrete man by tradeskill, have you done a concrete countertop yet? It's nice to make & you can color the sackcrete what color tickles your fancy, grind the surface & put a nice sealer on it, will last for decades, if not a lifetime or two. A few bags of sackcrete, (fiber mix &/or some small reinforcing rods with plastic caps ends near surfaces so potential rust wouldn't show) a few gallons of rain water & a wheelbarrow & a garden hoe & trowel, and you're good to go.

If you know where you are going to make a cut on laminate, or even wood, and you want to avoid having a blowout, just run a piece of tape over the seam you're going to cut, and it usually stops any blowouts from happening. After you make the cut, then peel off the tape on both sides, and you should have a nice smooth cut.
Kelly Carver
Kelly Carver 3 yıl önce
@Bushradical You're welcome. I worked in a cabinet shop and was in trades many years. Glad to help.:) That little trick works good on cutting small trims, too. Just wrap the tape around the place you're going to cut and it will hold it together so it doesn't splinter when you make your cut. Have a good day.
