The forest is alive, it feels everything, understands everything. As you treat him, so he treats you. You will love him and he will love you. You treat him with warmth, and he will warm you. You will protect him, and he will save you and comfort you in difficult times. But the Forest cannot respond to evil with evil, it simply does not know how. The worst thing on his part is indifference. If the forest is indifferent to you, then you don’t love it, you don’t feel it, and it will never reveal its secrets to you. But if you love him, then it's forever. You will not be able to live without him then, longing will seize. It's like longing for a very close person or phantom pain. It seems that he left the forest for a while and not far, in general, but still you already feel that something is not right, something is missing. Yes, you can get used to it and you can even somehow live with it ... Although, no, not to live - to exist, to pull the strap, but not to live. It will no longer be possible to live. But when you return, then you will understand - you are at home, and they were waiting for you here, you are welcome, you are missed. And how good it is to finally be home!

Here in Finland we never put just one layer of windows but two. The space between the windows works as an insulation. In old houses the inner window is often removable so during summer time it helps to keep the house bit cooler.
Randy Bobandy

Here in the US we also put 2 layers of glass... it's called a "double pane window" did you not hear him say he had a old glass piece laying around? That's why he used it.... because he already had it.

If he was going to live there I'm sure he would use two layered windows but for a retreat cabin that will be less than one week stays, free firewood will do just fine in heating single pane
Kown
Kown 8 aylar önce
In a lot of parts of europe its actually standard now to have triple pane windows, the insides are filled with special gas to further improve the insulation

Hey man, I gotta say that I am very grateful to you for these videos. My partner has some land that we're building a few tiny houses on and we were struggling to get something up before winter so we ended up just following right along with this video series and it looks like we're gonna have something very similar to this completed in a week or two. This kind of very simple comprehensive guidance that makes it all very accessible is hard to come by if you haven't grown up with anybody who does construction, and for both of us it's set us off on the path towards being able to do even more complex building projects, and I just want to say it's very much thanks to you in this case, so thank you! I'll send you pictures when it's done if you like.

Have found myself binge watching your videos the last couple days, gotta say, you guys are really inspiring me to move up my timeline on buying some remote property and building a cabin. one tid bit of advice in my limited experience building things, is I would have made the the vertical trim boards on the windows to length and cut the horizontal short so that the joint is vertical to allow for water runoff as opposed to it being horizontal and sort of trapping the water there. Just my two cents. Keep on building and making great videos!

I have watched all three videos, and each have something new so I am commenting on each. Again, an outstanding video with outstanding instructions, presented in a friendly and personable manner. It was great to watch the cabin taking form since Video #1. You and your wife are quite a team. I've read other comments, and they mostly agree that you two are a couple to be envied for how well you are a fit for one another. And even your brother was there. A lot of love and closeness in your family. And, yes, I am sure your grandpa would be very happy to know you were using his very own saw in this project. I hope you can ignore the ignorant commenters as you know that it comes with the territory of anything put online. Hiding behind distance and anonymity is a habit of such trolls. Back to the positive side (as who wants to linger with downers), that cabin is beautiful, and what a beautiful setting for it. The hard work was obvious, but so was the love of the project ...and each other. And again, thank you for letting us join you in this endeavor. It been great! ~Quite Sincere, Wombat Willie #:^)

These videos are super helpful and informative I feel like you’re explaining just the right amount of information for anyone even a beginner to be able to feel comfortable doing something like this. And I find the narrative and the way that you explain it to be very calm and patient and makes it seem like a very positive process rather than a burden or a hassle. The way hi I have sometimes received information for building things in the past has been very discouraging and negative. So it is very awesome for me to receive some knowledge in a way that uplifts me and empowers me to try this again and to view it as a joy rather than a fear or inconvenience

Great set of videos. Very enjoyable to watch, and very doable for a non professional. Have you given any thought to some solar power and the possibility of on site water? Some creature comforts can go a long way! Also question about the roof. I have not done a metal roof before, are the screws somehow sealed where they connect to the metal? rubber washers? mastic or roof sealer at each screw?

@Dharma’s Life Warning to EVERYONE! This is great for many, here we are we just want something simple, afforable, America was full out built on ownership, in 2 years in my state because of TRpostrs showing their innovation to live in tiny homes, this is now rapidly being restricted in my state now, word of caution. The ads for unrestricted land, any build type is NOT true so call your counties first as you will get a rude awakening do NOT end up where many are finding themselves. Know this, if you want this opportunity its time to go to county meetings as the ICC responsible for coming to US in 2000 to steal your freedoms has plans to control building codes globally by 2022, they are based out of California and they will take away your ability for affordable housing anywhere if you dont start placing heat on your county officials, within two years of somehow being invaded by out of the state of California outsiders we now cant get out of office, theyve taken away RV camping rights, they have permitted gardens, they have the Sherriff and county watching owners of properties harassing and arresting them on their own land doing illegal searches, they confiscate land daily for sheds just like this one all day long. Is this the country you want cause this is what your going to get if you dont say something. This year London came knocking with their solar farm millions for county nothing but highway robbery for American property owners, they want you to pay their friends moving in three times the cost of American solar companies a mandated solar installation most of you cant afford, but if you can pay 100k for 35 acres well you can do as you please after all elites dont have ANY restrictions, funny how that works aint it, you should all be enraged right now as we have Fair Housing laws these people have full out illegally abused to sell your rights out to foreign greedy companies who do back door dirty deals to sell you out! Wake up America you wont be able to afford nothing, your children are under seize and you need to start getting active to stop this before no one can own anything anymore.

Okay great... here's a serious question no one talks about or answers. Where are you finding the land that allows you these cabins as US has serious issues with building codes that dont allow this type of building on most property and can tell you this much.... unless you can find an affordable large amount of property the average person is NOT ALLOWED to do this. Good luck all you dreaming high schoolers cause Mr. Bill Gates and Blackwater are making land ownership a thing of the past and they are moving into serious law changes in eminent domain so if you all dont wake up, you arent going to be owning what you think. Just saying, you need to start showing up for your city meetings cause we are being bamboozled to think we can have things we can afford just before the truth slaps you all in the face

I've built many things and a two-person crew is more than twice as fast as a one person crew. When you were putting on the roof tin, Brook was hauling and handing it up. Saving those up and downs is huge. In addition, another person to grab dropped items, remember things you'll forget, hold up the end of a long piece (instead of building a jig to do it), all makes for a lot more efficiency. You two work really well together and that's a joy.

Question.. please don’t laugh. This is beyond awesome and so well done! I’d give anything to be able to build this. I’m a 65 year old tiny 90 pound female and must build a small dwelling like this for myself. There’s no way it can be this fancy. I can do the foundation but all the extra stuff and precision stuff like those metal enforcers I can’t do. Do you know of an even SIMPLER design for a cabin without all the cross wood and metal? Thank you!

Another really excellent video production, really interesting and the cabin looks great, I might even make one of these for my back garden it is so good and way better than any shed you can buy. The only thing I can see is that there is no "Threshold" on the bottom of the door to stop the rain and snow from penetrating, not sure if you have these in the US but just type threshold, UK front door and you'll get pictures coming up, They really are excellent pieces of kit for doors. Your work both Construction and video is excellent and very pleasant to watch. Thank you.

@World Tour Wow you represent ALL contractors in the USA? Very impressive! In Florida most houses have a front and rear door, one opens outward (usually the back) and the other inwards (usually the front - also making it EASIER to KICK IN and needing EXTRA REINFORCMENT for the security minded) Commercial buildings have OUTSWING doors so if there is a FIRE there in not 100 people piled in front of the doors and cant pull them open (possibly like the Great White concert Road Island tragedy) You can put your door on sideways for all I care lol. Or better yet on the roof! ;) I love this shed build.

Love this couple. They work so hard together and appear to get along well. Says volumes about being married to the right person and having similar interests.

@Izza Borealis Dries modern "guidelines" around this are frequently misleading. Historically, cultures have recognized that people don't stay the same, they grow. Sometimes, they grow apart. That's not a mistake, and I hope you can allow yourself some grace and give both of you permission to grow. Be the example you need for your self, and I hope you find your path to happiness.

A note on the single pane glass: when installing this leave 1/8th of inch on each side and the top for wood expansion. In temperate climate the wood moves and will twist, which can cause the glass to crack or be put under tension. Bird flys into it with a sharp beak and bam, shatters violently.

I installed 2 wood stoves for the 2 houses I lived in and I always avoided elbows. Not just for the complexity but also because sweeping the chimney would be a pain with all the bends and screws. Despite what many people say, I find it a lot easier to go through the roof. Great video, keep us updated! I wish I had 1/10 of your skills!

I really have enjoyed your videos! From the style of builds to the way you present them is just awesome. And I've began watching the Larry Haun videos. Great advice! Thank you.
